And I get why it can be a little hard to understand. When I was 18-years-old, I was seeing a 28-year-old guy I worked with.
16 is the age of consent where I live, not that I would be having sex with him. But it could be a problem if 16 is not the age of consent where he lives, if at some later point you do decide to have that kind of relationship with him and your parents have an issue with it.

There isn't a huge difference in your ages so there's nothing actually wrong with this kind of gap, however, since you mentioned not wanting to mention it to your parents I'm a little worried for you. Protect yourself and your future when you are ready for age of consent laws to matter.
